OVERLOOKING THIS CAN CAUSE MAJOR DAMAGE

This Often “Patched Symptom” Only Makes The Problem Worse And Can Cause Serious Damage

Every So Often, You May See Water Around The Base Of The Toilet.  The Natural Reaction Is To Wipe It Up And Forget About It Until The Next Time

This Problem May Actually Be Caused By A Leaking Gasket Where The Base Of The Toilet Couples With The Floor Ring Attached To The Soil Drain Pipe,

Left Unattended, This Can Create A Major Structural Problem With The Floor And Sub Floor Beneath The Toilet In The Form Of Rotted Wood.

People Think OMG, I Need A Plumber-Not So.  If You Are The Least Bit Handy And Have A Few Basic Tools, You Can Replace The Wax Gasket In Just A Few Minutes And Save The Plumbers Fees Which Could Run $100 Or More

Seriously, You  Can Do This Project !! Click Here For The Instructions On The Next Page

First Thing You Must Do Is To Turn Off The Water Supply To The Toilet

There Usually Is A Valve On The Wall Or Floor Beneath The Water Tank : It Looks Like This :toilet water valve

If You Experience Difficulty In Turning This Valve, Gently Turn It Counter Clockwise First, This May Break The Seal Caused By Normal Corrosion.  Then Turn Clockwise To Shut Off The Water Supply. If It Looks Severely Corroded And Green Then Shut Off The Main Water Supply.

We Will Offer A future Post And Video In Future Posts.

Now Remove The Water Supply Line From The Bottom Of The Toilet Tank toilet water supply

Next, Remove The Nuts And Washer From The Toilet Mounting Bolts :  This Is What They Look Like toilet mounting boltsOnce These Are Removed,  You Are Ready To Pick Up The Toilet Off The Offending Wax Ring Gasket

This Is Accomplished By Rocking The Toilet Bowl Gently Side To Side And When It Feels Free, Simply Lifting It Straight Up Off The Base

Set It Aside On A Piece Of Plastic Or Some Other Suitable Floor Protector, Then Take A Well Deserved Coffee Break

Now With Your Gloved Hands And A Putty Knife, Remove All Of The Old Wax And Clean The Mounting Flange Thoroughly.

Next, Remove The Old Mounting Bolts And Replace With The New Ones Which Should Have Been Included With The Replacement Wax Ring Which You Purchased

Now Your Base Should Look Like This : toilet flange

You Are Now Ready To Begin The Reinstall Of The Toilet

Click To Next Page For This Simple Process Place The Wax Ring Over The Flange And Gently Press Into Place

The Next Step Is To Place The Toilet Over The Ring Making Sure That The Bolts Protrude Through The Mounting Holes In The Toilet Base

NOTE:  If You Are Doing This Alone, Place A Straw Over Each Of The Mounting Bolts. These Will Act As Guide Posts So That You Can More Easily See Where The Bolts Are

Next, Gently Press The Toilet Bowl Onto The Wax Ring Until The Base Is Firmly In Contact With The Floor

Now, Place The Washers And Nuts On The Mounting Bolts And Tighten.  Be Careful Not To Tighten Too Much As You Can Easily Crack The Porcelain Base.

An Old Plumber Once Told Me “Tight Is Tight” Meaning Just Tighten Until It Is Snug.. Don’t Torque It Down

Next Page Will Finish This Project : Now For The Finishing Touches

You Have The Toilet Back In Place, Now Re Fasten The Water Supply Line

If I Have Done This, I Usually Replace The Water Supply Hose As Well.  It Is Inexpensive And You Are Sure That All Of The Seals And Gaskets Are New And Won’t Leak

You Do This By Removing The Supply Hose From The Supply Valve

Then Replace This End First .. Be Gentle And All Should Go Well

When This Is Done And Tightened Then Re Connect The Other End To The Toilet Tank toilet supply connection

This Should Be Hand Tightened Plus Another 1/4 Turn

Re Check All Of Your Nuts And Connections And Turn On The Water Valve–

Be Sure To Check For Leaks And Tighten Where Necessary

That Is It, You Have Completed This Task And Saved Yourself A Lot Of Money  $$$$$$$$
