The first thing you should do is to visit your local lumber yard and get some samples of what is available and in what sizes.. Then come home and put them against the wall and determine which is going to set your room off and please you .. That is job one and perhaps the most important job of the entire project
Once you have determined the stock which you want, then measure the linear footage around the room and add 10% for cuts and waste and mistakes.
